TEST LAUNCH NEW RUSSIAN ICBM

russia_missile-1-naiThe Russian armed forces successfully fired a top-secret advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, which is designed to counter the U.S. missile shield, which has developed recently in various areas.
The new weapon is an advanced version of the Topol-M missiles and Yars, already developed by the Strategic Missile Forces of Russia. The experiment was conducted from Plesetsk launch base in
northwestern Russia in Archangel Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
The aim of the missile test was the Kura range on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East. The successful test comes after a failed launch of the prototype on September 27, 2011. Then, a fault in the rocket engine, resulted in a drop of about 10 km from the launch pad.
The medium-weight ICBM missile is "one of the military-technical measures, which the military and political leadership of Russia receives a response to the development of a global missile defense system by the Americans," says retired Gen. Victor Yesin. The new missile could be ready to go into service soon, boosting Russia's nuclear deterrent "in a period of uncertainty," said former Chief of Staff of strategic missile forces.
According to military sources, the upgraded design of the new weapon focused on the type of fuel. The promotion of solid fuel has improved and allows for quicker boost, reducing the initial phase of flight, which makes the missile less susceptible to anti-missile systems. Few details have been revealed about the new system ICBM.
Unofficially dubbed has Avangard, is expected to head MIRV (multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicle) with improved maneuverability and targeting. (Parisis.wordpress)
